Meet Vanessa
I am a proud Washingtonian and a product of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). I earned my Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and built a rewarding career spanning more than four decades in Information Technology. My career also included working in the legal sector, at one of Washington, D.C.’s premier law firms, Covington & Burling LLP.

2011
Private equity firm MidOcean Partners acquired the company, taking it private once again. Following the acquisition, the company officially changed its name to LegalShield.
1972
Harland Stonecipher founded the Sportsman's Motor Club in Ada, Oklahoma. This was soon restructured to offer pre-paid legal services.
1976
The company was incorporated as Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.
1984
The company successfully launched its initial public offering (IPO). The company was first listed on the NASDAQ, then moved to the American Stock Exchange.
